On 6th October 2022 a ‘topping out’ ceremony was held at Kao Data’s Harlow Campus for KLON-02, the second of four market-leading, high performance data centres planned for the site.
The ceremony brought together the key stakeholders involved in the new data centre’s creation including, from the Kao Data team, Lee Myall, CEO, Paul Finch, COO, Gerard Thibault, CTO and Richard Collar, Technical Director, as well as Tom Absalom, Managing Director, Rudi Filmalter, Divisional Director, and Mike Bull, Contracts Director, from engineering construction partner and principal contractor JCA .
Tom Absalom, Managing Director at JCA said: “This marks another key milestone on a site steeped in data communications history, it being the birthplace of fibre optic data transfer. JCA are both proud and excited to be part of Kao Data’s impressive growth story and to celebrate topping out KLON-02, the second market-leading data centre we have had the privilege of constructing on the Harlow campus.”
The construction of the second facility was announced by Kao Data earlier this year with JCA appointed as principal contractor following on from the successful delivery of the first data centre on the campus, the award winning, BREEAM Excellent, KLON-01.
Once completed, the new data centre will offer up-to 10MW of capacity and provide an energy efficient home for almost 1,800 racks of IT equipment across 3,400m2 of technical space and via four Technology Suites.
