Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in London provides care for nearly one million people.
A significant increase in patients has placed heightened demand on both adult and neonatal intensive care units (ICUs). As a result, both critical care facilities are being expanded and redeveloped through a £20 million investment, half of which has been funded by charitable donations.
JCA is undertaking a complex programme of works to facilitate the ICU expansion, whilst ensuring unhindered access to the hospital’s A&E department. The project involves construction of a new plant room directly above the existing rooftop facility, which provides services for all wards and 80 per cent of the hospital’s operating theatres. All essential services will be migrated to the new plant room, including medical gas extraction, air handling and electrical plant, with all legacy plant to be removed and disposed of. Once the new plant room is ready, all new equipment will be assembled on site, commissioned and tested through an intensive proving period prior to the new plant room coming on stream.
