CRAC Unit Replacement & Chilled Water System Upgrade
Location: London Docklands
Project: CRAC Unit Replacement & Chilled Water System Upgrade
The Bloomberg requirement included replacement of 23qty upflow CRAC units that serve one of their data centres, located within London Docklands. The project was awarded on a design and build form of contract and required JCA to provide a highly resilient system, whilst also providing the most efficient solution to improve energy performance and achieving an optimum payback period for capital expenditure.
JCA designed and built a solution which involved the replacement of the existing units on a phased basis as the areas had to remain operational at all times. A new condenser farm was built which included the supply and installation of external mezzanine steelwork gantry and access area with surrounding external louvres. All DX pipework was installed within existing and newly created service risers. This was implemented in conjunction with the replacement of three turbocor chillers and associated chilled water services and power infrastructure.
All works were carried out in a live environment within a number of comms rooms; all of which were kept operational at all times.
The project was completed without any interruption to service and within cost and budget requirements. Subsequent operational energy savings of over 50% have been recorded against the original installation. With a high level of client satisfaction, JCA continue to work with this client on projects of a similar nature
