JCA were asked to complete the design and construction of an internal fit out of a Tier III + data centre for this global payment processing company, as defined by the Uptime Institute of America’s Tier classification and performance standard (UTI), supported by TIA 942.
The internal design was to provide a full data centre internal fit out to cover 1000m2 of floor space. The design was scalable, to enable additional CAC POD’s to be provisioned as required with minimal disruption to daily operation. Power infrastructure was provided from existing switchgear to enable the 1000kW design load to be achieved.
The data suite has a floor area of 1000m2 and was constructed to a SEAP class 3 (enhanced) design. The data hall envelope was modified to enable cabinet power provisioning to be installed at high level via a containment network installed to tight weight and space restrictions. Separate zones were provided within the data hall with full cold aisle containment. Power supplies were deployed at high level from eight power distribution units (PDU’s) which were installed into two dedicated rooms. Each PDU comprised of four 630A sub panels, each supplied via a static transfer switch. Each sub panel comprises three 250A, 24 way TP & N distribution boards. All elements of the installation were designed and installed so that they can be isolated to facilitate planned preventative maintenance, without the loss of power or cooling, thereby allowing concurrent maintenance. Structured cabling (OM4 fibre and Cat6 copper) installation was also from high level, having complete separation from the power deployment and diverse A&B routing.
The internal design and fit out included fire alarm/suppression systems, environmental (temperature/humidity) monitoring, security system and a power management system. The project was completed to an accelerated programme to meet the client’s tight timeframes for deployment of IT equipment.
